Official Language Policy for doctors already in service

The Medical Officers who are in service including the intern medical officers were exempted from the 2nd Language proficiency exam made mandatory according to 7/2007 circular as a government policy, after GMOA pointed out that they are not in a position to attend a relevant focused training programme because:

  • it will compromise the smooth functioning of the health care delivery system
  • it is likely to become a burden on medical officers aspiring post graduate studies

Therefore the existing E-Bar Tamil / Sinhala exam will be considered as the equivalent of the Language proficiency exam for them on proposal made by GMOA.
