As part of the centenary celebrations of the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), the much anticipated “Beyond the Boundaries” Sports Fiesta 2026 was successfully held on Saturday, 07th March 2026 at the Bloomfield Cricket Ground, bringing together doctors and their families for a day of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and celebration.
The event, which commenced at 8:00 a.m., featured exciting Cricket and Netball Tournaments, drawing enthusiastic participation from GMOA members across the country. Teams competed with passion and determination, embodying the spirit of teamwork and resilience that defines doctors.
In the final results, the Kandy District emerged as the overall champions of the Sports Fiesta. In the Cricket Tournament, Kandy claimed the championship title, while Anuradhapura District secured the runners-up position after a spirited contest. In the Netball Tournament, Kandy once again dominated to become champions, with Colombo District finishing as runners-up following a competitive final.
Beyond the competitive tournaments, the Sports Fiesta offered a vibrant array of family friendly and children’s activities, along with numerous entertainment events that created a festive atmosphere for all attendees. The occasion provided a unique opportunity for doctors and their loved ones to relax, connect, and celebrate the Association’s remarkable 100 year journey
Held under the theme “Beyond the Boundaries,” the event symbolized not only excellence in sports but also the commitment of doctors to go beyond limits in service to the nation. The gathering highlighted unity, wellness, and the importance of balancing professional dedication with recreation and community engagement.
With the powerful message, “Victory belongs to those who dare, dream, and deliver,” the Sports Fiesta concluded on a high note, celebrating sporting excellence and camaraderie among all participants.
