The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) launched the “GMOA on Frontline” initiative with a mission to support communities affected by the recent floods in Sri Lanka. The project was designed to provide immediate relief to affected members and their families, as well as vulnerable populations in the hardest-hit areas.

A key component of the initiative was the establishment of a dedicated hotline, enabling flood-affected members to seek assistance efficiently. The GMOA team coordinated the collection and distribution of essential items, including medicines, dry rations, clothing, sanitary items, and safe drinking water, ensuring timely support reached those in need. Relief efforts focused on the most impacted areas, including Mahiyanganaya, Chillaw, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Peradeniya, and Gamopola.

In addition to providing essential supplies, GMOA also organized medical camps in the affected regions. These camps provided healthcare services to over 9,500 patients, with the dedicated participation of more than 450 doctors, offering both immediate medical attention and ongoing support to flood-impacted communities.

The “GMOA on Frontline” project underscores the association’s commitment not only to advancing the medical profession but also to standing in solidarity with its members and the wider community during times of crisis, ensuring relief, healthcare, and hope reach those most in need.
