Declaration of the Centenary Year of the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA)

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) proudly announces the commencement of its Centenary Year, marking 100 years of dedicated service to the people of Sri Lanka and the advancement of the medical profession. Featuring the theme ‘A Century of Healing the Nation’, The centenary celebrations will encompass a series of multi-religious, cultural, and recreational events, reflecting the diverse and inclusive spirit of the association.

The year of celebrations will begin with religious observances at the GMOA premises: a Pirith Chanting Ceremony on 9th January, followed by almsgiving on 10th January, invoking blessings for the association and its members. The Hindu community will be honoured with a special ceremony on 21st January at Nallur Kovil, Jaffna, while the Islamic community celebrations will take place on 12th February at Kalmunai. The Roman Catholic centenary event will be held on 26th February at All Saints’ Church, Borella, presided over by His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith.

In addition to religious ceremonies, the centenary year will feature a sports day on 07th March, including cricket and netball matches along with other sporting activities for members and their families.

The celebrations will reach their pinnacle with the grand main event on 13th of May at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), bringing together members, families, and distinguished guests to commemorate the remarkable journey of GMOA over the past century.

The GMOA Centenary Year is not just a celebration of its past achievements but a reaffirmation of its commitment to excellence, service, and unity among medical professionals in Sri Lanka.
